Bezoar Ibex
The bezoar is the ibex of Turkey, and one of the most striking members of the family — long, sweeping, heavily keeled horns on an animal that lives in genuinely difficult ground.
Trophy quality
Recorded bezoar run from about 35 to 57 inches. A good representative animal measures 42 to 46 inches, which is the number to plan around; anything past the low 50s is exceptional.
As with every ibex, horns lay down an annuli ring each year, so age can be counted in the field. Bezoar keep adding meaningful length well past ten years of age, so an older animal is worth holding out for.
How it compares
Turkey differs from our central Asian hunts in one respect worth knowing up front: permit and licence fees there are high, and they rise with the size of the animal. On Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Mongolia hunts, all licence fees are included and there are no charter fees or additional taxes to budget for.
