Russian Moose.   (Alces alces)

Koryakskiy Range / Penzhina & Belaya River drainages.

The Siberian Chukotkan Moose are the largest known Moose species in the world with wide palmated antlers, and are only found in this region of the upper Kamchatka of the extreme eastern part of the Russian Far East. Moose in the Magadan region the biologist have classified as a different sub specie and ranges to the West, to Yakutsk having smaller bodies and antlers. Hunters will be moved with fixed wing aircraft, boats, or helicopter to populations of trophy Moose.

Russian Moose.

Hunting the Chukotkan Moose requires a lot of travel to get there but there are helicopters in some locations throughout this region and this is where we will be based to have this support for our hunts. Hunters will be moved with fixed wing aircraft, boats, or helicopter to populations of  trophy Moose.

 Fly In Hunt.

The outfitter will have pre-scouted the areas for large Bull Moose and will take 2 hunters by helicopter to hunt and stalk these animals. Once the Bull Moose are with cows they will not move much and tend to stay in the same area making it very exciting hunting. Sometimes we have found 10 or so large Bulls in one area. We will set up a camp as close as possible with guides and a cook, then focus on hunting these animals over a few days, Even with the helicopter these hunts are still demanding and can wear you down. We try to get within a 1/2 mile or closer to the pre-scouted animals with our camps, but you will still do a fair amount of walking over this 14 day trip.

Float Hunt.

This is a 9 day float hunt. You will be floating the Belaya or Penzhina River drainages, both of these rivers are right in the middle of some of the best Moose habitat in the Upper Kamchatka regions. For the float trips there will be 2 hunters max along with two guides, the area has been pre-scouted by the outfitter and he will decide where you will start your hunt. You will be camping and hunting along the way and the guides will prepare all meals and take care of you, and may have one cook along on the hunt as well depending on the area chosen. The outfitter has Cabela’s tents for sleeping and hunters will sleep on pads.

Additional Animals:

  • Koryak Sheep
  • Grizzly
  • Wolf
  • Wolverine
  • Caribou
  • Moose

 Accommodations.

Base of operations will be the Kamehckoe village, staying at a Bed and Breakfast, but while in the field you will be sleeping in tents with the guides preparing all meals.

Success rate

Moose are quite plentiful in the Koryakskiy Region of Far North Kamchatka but still requires scouting and being mobile with  fixed wing aircraft, boats, rafts, and helicopters to be 100% successful taking these large Moose.

 Note.

Travel in Russia as any place in the Far North Regions you always need to expect delays due to weather; we operate on VFR Flight Rules only and do not fly in bad weather. The outfitter has over 30 years in Alaska sticking to this system during bad weather. We can monitor weather systems much better now and be alerted to any bad weather which might cause any delays.

Combo Hunts.

Moose/Koryak Snow Sheep/Brown Bear.

For Hunters that would like to take a Snow Sheep before the Moose hunt and a Brown Bear after the Moose hunt, to take all three animals hunters must stay 21 days, we must have at least 4 hunters for this combination hunt, with helicopter being the only way to transfer hunters to and from the hunting areas, the outfitter will fly all hunters to the North East part of Kamchatka with fixed wing aircraft, putting them right in the middle of some of the largest Moose in the world and 120 miles  of travel from this location for good Snow Sheep, but for the Large Brown Bear, will travel 300 miles South down the Kamchatka Peninsula to the Voyampolka River delta.
